This process will replace your current RFMS program files with newly created files.
Please note, RFMS recommends this process be done by a qualified local technician as there is always a risk of data loss if not handled properly.
This process may take 30 minutes or longer and all users must be completely out of RFMS during this process. Therefore, we recommend this process be done after normal business hours.
Prepare:
- Verify all users are completely out of RFMS.
(If anyone is still in, not all files will be replaced. On the server, go into Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Computer Management -> Shares -> Open Files and close any RFMS files showing there) - Make a manual backup of the SQL database and RFMS program folder before starting so that you can revert if anything goes wrong. Verify the backups have been created before proceeding.
- Locate the RFMSGeneralReleaseUPDATE.exe file from the last update you ran on RFMS. This update file must match the version of RFMS you are currently running.
(If you do not have the file matching your current version of RFMS, update your RFMS to the latest version by downloading it our website at rfms.com, then proceed. Instructions for updating RFMS can be found here: RFMS Program Update Instruction Document )
Next, do the following steps on the server that houses your RFMS program folder.
- Create a brand new empty folder (this folder can be named anything you like as it will only be needed temporarily).
- In your existing RFMS folder, locate the files (if present), dbconnect.tps, dbconnect.xml & all files with .manifest extension. Make copies of these files and place them into the new empty folder you created in Step 4, (copy just these files, no others).
- Run the update file (from Step 3) with it pointed at the newly created folder. This will create a new set of Core RFMS files in this folder.
- Once the update completes, open this new folder and sort the files by Type (you will ONLY need the .dll & .exe files).
- Make a copy of all the .dll & .exe files from this new folder and paste them into your existing RFMS folder. Select to replace ALL files that it prompts.
IMPORTANT: ONLY replace .dll & .exe files. DO NOT replace any other file types in the existing folder or it may break customized configurations. - After files have been copied into the RFMS program folder, ensure all files have updated correctly by re-running the RFMS update on your existing RFMS program folder.
- Once finished, launch RFMS from your existing RFMS folder, open modules and verify data is present.
- The final step is to delete the new folder (created in Step 4) so it does not cause any future confusion as to which RFMS program folder is the correct folder.
Note: This process may or may not repair all add-ons, although it can result in fringe improvements by refreshing the files they interact with.
