Update Required for NACHA ACH Payroll Description Compliance

Effective March 20, 2026 the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) requires certain payroll-related ACH entries to use the standardized Company Entry Description PAYROLL.

To support this requirement, RFMS Core version 25.99.1 updates ACH file generation to automatically populate the required descriptor where applicable. No workflow changes or configuration changes are required after the update is installed.

NACHA Requirement Effective March 20, 2026

NACHA has implemented a new compliance-related rule. They now require ACH Originators to use PAYROLL in the Company Entry Description field for applicable payroll-related PPD credit entries.

How RFMS Core 25.99.1 Supports this Requirement

Starting in RFMS Core 25.99.1, ACH file generation for applicable payroll-related transactions is updated to automatically populate the required PAYROLL Company Entry Description.

There are no new screens, settings, or process changes associated with this update.

What You Need to Do

To ensure your ACH files are generated with the updated Company Entry Description, your system must be updated to RFMS Core 25.99.1.

After the update is installed, no additional configuration is required.

Why Staying Current Matters

If you do not update to 25.99.1, your ACH files may still process in some cases, but they may not meet the new NACHA formatting requirement.

As banks begin enforcing the updated rule, clients using older versions may receive Notices of Change, and some non-compliant payroll items may be returned.
