Chargebacks 101
Chargebacks are fees incurred when your customer refutes the validity of a transaction (by filing a
dispute) with his or her Issuing Bank who then forcibly reverses the transfer of funds. You may dispute the validity in which case Acquiring Bank and Issuing Bank shall reach an agreement. Chargebacks are categorized as technical, clerical, quality, or fraud depending upon the reason for the dispute. Accessing
your transaction reporting information within CardPointe allows you to win chargeback disputes.
How To Avoid Chargebacks
CardPointe’s security tab allows you to enable and disable CVV and AVS verification from within the
CardPointe Desktop application. By default, these settings are disabled. Enabling them will result in automatic declines of any transaction with a CVV or AVS mismatch, protecting against chargebacks.
To change this setting:
- Click Administration in the top navigation bar of the CardPointe desktop application.
- Click the Security tab.
- Within the “CVV / AVS” section, check the box next to the validations that you wish to activate.
- CVV (Card Verification Value) - When active, CVV mismatches are automatically declined.
- AVS (Address Verification System) - When active, AVS mismatches are automatically declined.
- When finished, click Save.
