Fuzzy Search allows you to locate records even when yo don't know the exact spelling or full value of a field. By adding the "%" wildcard symbol before or after your search text, you can expand the results returned.
How Fuzzy Search Works
- % before the text - Finds any record that contains the text anywhere in the field.
- Example: Entering %MENT in the Sold To Name field returns all names that include "MENT" anywhere in the value.
- % after the text - Finds any record that begins with the text you entered.
- Example: Entering MENT% returns only names that start with "MENT".
These wildcards help return more flexible, inclusive search results when a precise match isn't known or when additional results need to be shown.
When to Use Fuzzy Search
Use Fuzzy Search when you want to:
- Broaden your results beyond exact matches
- Locate records when only part of a name or number is known
- Display additional inventory or customer records when system settings limit standard search output
- Expand your search when the usual settings don’t return the results you expect
Tips for Best Results
- You can place % on both sides (e.g., %MENT%) to find all records containing the text anywhere.
- Avoid overusing wildcards on high-volume fields, as this may return large result sets.
- Start broad, then refine your search using additional fields if needed.
