Month-End Journal Closing Worksheet - Non-ERRM

Use this worksheet when completing month-end journal closing for a company that does not use Enhanced Real-time Revenue Management, or ERRM.

The worksheet gives you a place to track month-end steps, record report totals, compare balances, and note differences that need review.

When to Use This Worksheet

Use this worksheet during month-end close when you need to:

run and review standard month-end reports;
record report totals;
compare report totals to journal or General Ledger balances;
document differences that need review;
keep a printed or saved record of the month-end review.

This worksheet is intended to be printed or saved while you work through month-end reports in RFMS.

Before You Begin

Before using the worksheet:

  • Confirm that your company does not use ERRM.
  • Confirm the month and year being closed.
  • Confirm the store or Combine selection to use for reporting.
  • Use the same report date, store, and Combine selection when comparing report totals to journal or General Ledger balances.
  • Complete required posting before final balance comparison, including outstanding A/P, job costing, and inventory adjustments for the month being closed.
  • Follow your company’s accounting close procedures before making journal entries or corrections.

Reports to Run Before Using the Worksheet

Before completing the worksheet, run the month-end reports your company uses to review and reconcile month-end balances.

For Non-ERRM companies, this usually includes:

Review Area Report
Bank or cash activity Check register or bank reconciliation reports
Accounts Receivable Month-End A/R and Customer Deposits Report
Customer deposits Month-End A/R and Customer Deposits Report
Accounts Payable Month-End A/P Report
Inventory Month-End Inventory Balance Report
Sales and material cost review Job Cost Analysis Report
Sales/use tax or GST, if applicable Tax reports or GST Report
Payroll, if applicable Payroll month-end reports

Use the worksheet to record report totals, compare balances, and document differences that need review.

For details about how inventory is calculated for Non-ERRM systems, see Month-End Inventory Balance Report — Non-ERRM.

If a Balance Does Not Match

If a report total does not match the journal or General Ledger balance, record the difference on the worksheet and review the related month-end troubleshooting steps.

Before making corrections, confirm that:

  • the same accounting period or report date was used;
  • the same store or Combine selection was used;
  • all required transactions were posted;
  • the correct account code or journal balance is being compared;
  • no activity was posted after the report was run.

For detailed troubleshooting, see RFMS Month-End Close: Troubleshooting Balance Mismatches.

Tax Reporting

The attached checklist includes a reminder to enter sales tax liability during Preliminary Close Journal. It does not cover every tax reporting workflow.

If your company reports sales/use tax, review your sales/use tax balances as part of month-end close. Run the applicable tax reports before completing final close, and save or print the tax reports with your month-end documentation.

If your company reports GST, run the GST Report as part of month-end review. Review GST collected and GST paid according to your company’s accounting process, and save or print the report with your month-end documentation.

Complete the tax review that applies to your company’s accounting setup. You do not need to complete both sales/use tax and GST review unless your company’s accounting process requires it.
