Connection Error: Create Database Connection / Server and Database Window

ISSUE:

  • User tries to open RFMS, or modules in RFMS and gets a window requesting Server and Database

The Create Database Connection window typically indicates an issue with either the shortcut icon or the user's permissions on the RFMS Program Folder/Drive.

  1. For the shortcut icon, right click on it and go to properties. Make sure the "Start In" Line is not blank and/or it matches the "Target Line".  For example, if the "Target Line" said r:\rfms\rfmsnav.exe, the "Start In" Line should say r:\rfms or r:\rfms\ (see image below).

  2. For permissions, make sure the user has appropriate rights to the RFMS Program Folder for security and for sharing. Please note, it may be necessary to re-apply permissions, not just verify they are set. One reason for this is we have found Windows updates, whether on workstation or servers, can sometimes cause grief with permissions.  We recommend users to have Full Control, so they can create, modify and remove files, such as tmp files.  Alternatively, UNC paths can be used so users do not have a mapped drive access to the folder.
